Award-winning collaboration between writer, illustrator and designer

The Indigenous Discovery Big Book Series takes students and teachers on a rhyming journey to meet amazing land and sea animals, and essential early concepts of colours, numbers and shapes all brought to life through stunning artwork by Darug artist-educator Leanne Mulgo Watson.

The brief

Writer and publisher Em Bruce had a vision for these books, which needed some help to be brought to life.

The solution

Combining the engaging rhyming text with Darug artist Leanne Mulgo Watson’s striking illustrations, each spread was treated like a unique standalone artwork. Layers of texture, painted backgrounds, and the artist’s work were blended into seamless compositions.

The result speaks for itself - the series winning the EPAA Award in 2022 for best primary teaching resource. The judges comment: “This resource is a gorgeous celebration of visual literacy”.
